Logar is a province located to the southwest of Kabul. Logari music is well-known for its style of short instrumental dance pieces that end with energetic rhythmic cadences played on the drums. These cadences are followed by prolonged pauses, which help cue the choreography for the dancers. Drumming is an important element of Logari dance, with songs featuring a distinct rhythmic pattern of seven beats that is played on a barrel-shaped drum called the dholak.

Logari dance songs are normally strung together during a performance to form longer sequences of dancing. Dance songs will begin with a salaami or sar-e-saaz, which is a musical interlude that does not include vocals. This interlude segues immediately to a song, marking the beginning of the dance. Spinning is a key aspect of the logari style of dance, and participants will raise their arms in the air and come together at key moments of the dance.
